Youth Stamp Fair 2019 Was a SUCCESS

*****

Sponsors: Ventura County Philatelic Society and Anacapa Middle School Stamp Club

Thousands of free stamps along with “basic training” for stamp collectors were offered at the 29th annual Youth Stamp Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Dudley House Museum, 197 N. Ashwood, Ventura.

The event is sponsored by the Ventura County Philatelic Society and the Anacapa Middle School Stamp Club and, despite the name, is open to everyone who wants to learn more about stamp collecting, which has been called the king of hobbies and the hobby of kings, said John Weigle of Oxnard, chairman of the event and a member of the adult society and adviser to the Anacapa Middle School club.

Each year the Youth Stamp Fair offers a goodie bag to everyone who attends free stamps, several work stations where stamp collecting techniques were explained, games, a cachet (pictorial envelope) contest, Geosafari games related to stamps, and a large area where visitors could search for stamps for their collections. TEach year the stamps are free for those up to age 18 and 5 cents each for those above 18. Visitors will also be able to make bookmarks with stamps.

In 2019 the U.S. Postal Service has approved a special postmark featuring the Ventura Pier and a poinsettia for the event. The cancel will be used on the cacheted covers prepared by young artists and was available to any visitor who wanted it as long as the item offered for the cancellation has first-class postage on it.

The “goodie bag”  included stamps, a color catalog of U.S. stamps, several pamphlets on stamp collecting and a CD containing free stamp albums from the American Philatelic Society, the American Stamp Dealers Association, the American Topical Association and the International Society of World Wide Stamp Collectors and other literature.

More information about the Youth Stamp Fair may be obtained  see Contact Us

The Anacapa Middle School Stamp Club met every Monday during the lunch hour and is open only to Anacapa students.
